Styling is one of the many exciting fashion careers, with job options in the Fashion and Retail Space. Employment opportunities as Stylists range from visual merchandisers to personal shoppers. The DAF Short Course in Styling offers students the opportunity to explore the theory and practice of creating strong fashion images. Strong fashion images are crucial for designers and brands to promote their work.
Over 8 days students are required to explore the following; personal styling for a client, conducting street style trend reports, planning and testing an accessories still life shoot and organizing, sourcing, management and production of a look book shot for a local fashion brand. These tasks expose students to the varied roles of a stylist and foster best practice. At the end of the 8 week part time course students have a selection of images and reports to start their own styling portfolio.
The look book task requires that students plan and manage the many different aspects required for the shoot. The students have to source the clothes and accessories, hair and make-up artists, models, locations as well as develop the mood and storyboards for the shot. After a very busy day of shooting the students are required to clean up the images and ready the digital files for publication. The result of the look book shoot can be seen here.
