Tuesday the 26th November was the big day for DAF’s 2013 graduates – the day that all their hard work would pay off as they saw their collections come to life on the runway. With beautiful wooden floors, high ceilings and glass walls the Arena at Wembley square was the perfect setting for this prestigious event. Family, friends, countless VIP’s and industry members poured into the Arena to browse through the 3rd years portfolio’s and wait in anticipation for the show to start. Industry members representing all of South Africa’s biggest retailers, magazines, blogs and designers were present in the front row. The advisory committee, consisting of Umashan Naidoo (Woolworths), Poppy Evans (Cosmopolitan), David West (Woolworths/Designer) and Stiaan Louw (Designer) were ready to start the harrowing task of selecting the graduate who would win the Design Excellence award at the end of the evening.
The show was an absolute success with the students showing ingenuity, creativity and taste. Aneleh van Wyk won the Academic Achievement award for getting the highest grades overall in 3rd year, while Zoe Poate snapped up both the Design Excellence and the Truworths Commercial Viability award. Kirsten Gordon was given special mention by the Advisory committee and Nicholas Coutts was the proud winner of the Elle Rising Star competition just a few days before.
